Amazon.com Product Description
Looking for a simple way to monitor your fitness? Look no further than the Polar FS3c wrist-mounted heart rate monitor. Not only does the FS3c give you a brief training summary after every workout session, but the monitor's straightforward and easy-to-use features give you everything you need for safe, effective fitness training. The watch starts by wirelessly reading your heart rate, with measurements for your average heart rate, maximum heart rate, and exercise time. The watch also includes audible and visual alarms that tell you when your heart rate exceeds or falls under your target zone. As a result, you'll know whether you should speed up or slow down to get the most from your workout. And users who regularly work out in crowded gyms will appreciate Polar's OwnCode technology, which blocks unwanted crosstalk signals from other heart rate monitors nearby.

Other features include HeartTouch button-free operation; an oversized display with a built-in backlight; a date and weekday indicator; 12/24-hour time displays with an integrated alarm; and a water-resistant housing to 50 meters. The Polar FS3c comes with a Polar T31 coded chest belt transmitter.

About Polar
Polar invented the first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of "intensity training" by heart rate swept the athletic world in the '80s. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, heart rate training is employed by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight, and Polar is the leading heart rate monitor brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide. The company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent   August 28, 2010

The watch is easy to use. You need to customize it with your personal profile before using it. The setup is easy. Instructions are clear. The watch is very user friendly and intuitive to use. As for the heart monitor portion - it's got the essentials - it'll establish your target heart rate based on your age and workout zone. However, you have the option to override the recommended target rate. The watch will display whether you are at, below or above the target rate. Moving the watch near the heart strap allows you to toggle between the 3 basic watch settings - the time, the time tracked during your workout (the stopwatch) and the heart rate display. This is a convenient feature as you do not have to stop your workout to click on the watch buttons. It's also a nice watch for casual wear. If you are serious about a good cardio workout, this watch keeps you on the right path and without distraction. I highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Great hr monitor so far   May 7, 2010

I needed a relatively inexpensive heart rate monitor (hrm) that was good at...capturing my hr. I've used this running, swimming, and biking. The hrm was easy to set up (time, date, etc.) and the display is easy to read. The one button interface is good. I can easily start the monitor with just one touch and it picks up the strap quickly (usually within 10 seconds). I have another Polar hrm and have noticed on both the back of the strap that sits against your body needs to be wet, otherwise, the watch won't pick it up quickly, if at all. There are other functions on this monitor, but I haven't used them yet.

I recommend this to anyone on a budget. Good for beginning/intermediate triathletes.
