About Heart Rate Training
Turns out, your heartbeat is a pretty big deal. It's actually one of the most important indicators of overall wellness, and is one of the most effective elements of any fitness program. Your heart rate not only controls your body but also the efficiency of your exercise. To get the most out of your physical activity--whether it's walking, dancing or aerobics--you need to make sure you are in your target heart rate zone. To determine your target heart rate, first subtract your age from 220. That's your maximum heart rate. Your target heart rate is roughly 50 to 75 percent of this maximum heart rate. To see how your fitness level is progressing over time, measure and track your resting heart rate--usually between 60 and 100 beats per minute--on a weekly basis. As you become more fit, your resting heart rate will decrease.

Your target heart rate generally encompasses three zones. Exercising in the Active Zone (50 to 60 percent of maximum heart rate) reduces blood pressure and cholesterol and is ideal for fitness beginners or those on a low-intensity program. Almost all calories burned in this zone are fat calories. Reaching the Training Zone (60 to 70 percent of maximum heart rate) requires more intense aerobic activity and is perfect for fitness enthusiasts working to burn maximum calories and fat. Finally, exercising in the Endurance Zone (70 to 80 percent of maximum heart rate) is generally recommended for athlete in training. The primary benefits of this zone are cardiovascular strengthening and elevated caloric burn.

5 out of 5 stars Review of Sportline 915   February 6, 2010

I purchased Sportline 915 specifically for its ability to provide a heart rate. The watch does that quite well, so well that when the face of the watch is just grazed it goes into heart rate mode, because of the its sensitivity. The only negative is not for the watch, but the little manual that accompanies the device. The manual does not indicate what all the screens do. I had to contact Sportline. They provided the answer in their responds. Age and gender are inputted into the second screen.

5 out of 5 stars Continuous heart rate, high accuracy   February 21, 2010

I Have been looking for a strapless heart rate monitor for some time since my Casio died a few years ago. One aspect of physical health has to do with resting heart rate, so I did not want a strap. This watch fits the bill. It is also very good during exercise. Just be aware that the contact with your finger and the back of the watch to your wrist cannot be too dry. When you are sweating, this is not a problem. When at rest, if there is no reading, just wet your finger.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent choice   March 20, 2010

I looked at a lot of heart monitor watches, and could not have made a better choice. Very easy to use, and easy to program. All you have to do is touch the face at any time and you are three seconds from a very acurate heart rate display, without the need for cumbersome chest strap. I am amazed at how well it works, and at a great price! I doubt I could've gotten a better HM watch at twice the price. I keep a close watch on my heart rate between sets of excercises without slowing my workout.

This watch exceeded my expectations, I was trying to replace a similar Casio watch that finally died after having it forever. I knew nothing about this watch when I ordered it. It is terrific quality and well worth the price. I have been completely satisfied and would recommend it's purchase by anyone considering buying one.

5 out of 5 stars SOLO 915 IS GREAT   June 24, 2010

This watch is awesome ( at least for me). I bought it not only for the purpose of monitoring my heart rate but also for the calorie tracking. The calorie tracker will keep you very motivated to work out and burn lots of calories. The watch itself looks great and has many great features like an alarm, chronograph, and countdown timer. It is very easy to use. All you have to do is put your finger on the metal area and in just a few seconds it will tell you an accurate heart rate reading including the percentage from your max heart rate, to tell you wether your in the best fat calorie burning zone or not. Sometimes if you are extremely sweaty it will start reading the heart rate without putting your finger on it or it wont read at all.. when this happens i just dry the watch on my shirt or dry my finger, after which it works fine again. It is also hard to get a heart rate while you are running. You either need to slow down or start walking to get a heart rate. It only takes about 5 seconds to get the heart rate so it is not that big of a break. If you are really serious about knowing the exact heart rate at all times, this is not the right heart rate monitor for you. What you need is a hrm that comes with a chest strap that wirelessly connects to the watch to tell you your exact hear rate. Sportline has a few very good watches that use the chest strap, in fact the Sportline DUO 1025 and the 1060 are great watches because they allow for the choice of wearing a chest strap or just using your finger on the watch to get a heart rate. Those models are a bit more expensive. I am not sure if they come with a calorie tracker which is the reason why i didnt purchase either of those.

This watch comes with a booklet that tells you alot about how your workouts depend on your heart rate and also how to use the hrm to benefit your workouts.

Overall it is a great watch. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to know how many calories they burn during a workout and are not anal about stopping for a few seconds during a workout to check their heart rate.
